St Malachy's Primary School

Personal Development and Mutual Understanding focuses on encouraging each child to become personally, emotionally, socially effective to lead healthy, safe and fulfilled lives and to become confident, independent and responsible citizens, making informed and responsible choices and decisions throughout their lives.

Health Education is taught as a cross curricular subject running throughout all subjects. Many projects and topics provide children with opportunities to develop positive attitudes to keeping healthy through physical activities, diet and personal hygiene and life style.

St Malachy’s Primary School is signed up as a Health Promoting School. We have a healthy eating policy and are committed to the NEELB Brighter Bites Break initiative whereby pupils are asked to have a piece of fruit and milk or water for break. Our P7 pupils participate in the Heartstart initiative. This provides the children with basic lifesaving skills for CPR and other basic emergency first aid skills.

Each year we collect shoeboxes to send to children and adults in Croatia, Romania, Hungary, etc. This year we sent 110 boxes.  You can see some of the pupils below who supported this campaign.
